Server and PC backups locked with a key only you hold.

MSP Vantage Backup copies your servers and PCs to a storage box in your own office and to us. Every file is cut into pieces and encrypted on the machine before anything leaves it, so we store your backups but can never read them.

Windows servers and PCs first. Restore to the machine, or download a file straight from your browser.

What it backs up

From one folder to the whole machine

Files and folders come first. Databases, whole machines and virtual machines follow, all sealed the same way and kept under the same rules.

Files and folders

Windows servers and PCs on a schedule, including files that are open at the time. Only pieces that changed since the last backup are sent.

Building now

Restore from your browser

Browse any backup by date and download a file or folder. The names and the file itself are opened in your browser, never on our servers.

Building now

A storage box in your office

Keep a copy on your own network storage for fast restores, and send it on to us. PCs out of the office back up straight to us.

Coming

SQL Server

Databases backed up consistently while they run, and restored to the point you choose.

Coming

Whole machines

Every disk of a server or PC. Bring it back onto the same or new hardware from a boot USB, or start it as a virtual machine.

Coming

Virtual machines

Hyper-V and VMware machines backed up from the host, and restored as a whole machine or file by file.

Later

Restores tested for you

Backups are opened and checked on a schedule, so a broken backup shows up long before anyone needs it.

Coming

Keep what you need

Choose how long backups are kept for each customer. Old backups go only by your rules, and never in under 14 days.

Building now

Linux and Microsoft 365

Linux servers, and the mail and files your business keeps in Microsoft 365.

Later
Where it goes

Locked once, on the machine. Copied twice.

A backup is sealed before it leaves the machine and stays sealed in every place it is kept. Copies are made without ever being opened.

On the machine

Files are cut into pieces and each piece is encrypted with the customer's key. Pieces you already have are never sent again.

Your office

A copy on a storage box in the building, for restores at the speed of your own network.

Off-site, in the UK

A copy on our servers, or in storage your business already pays for. If the office is lost, this copy is still there.

For IT providers

Every customer's backups in one console

Switch Backup on for a customer, add their machines and see every backup at a glance, from its own console or inside MSP Vantage.

  • Your technicians can restore. Those you allow hold the key for your customers, so a restore never waits on the customer, and never on us.
  • Each customer has their own key. One customer's key opens nothing of another's. Their own admins can hold a copy too.
  • A recovery kit per customer. 24 words, printed when Backup is switched on and checked before it starts. If every key were lost, the kit still opens their backups.
  • New machines are checked. A machine gets its key only after the code on its screen matches the one in the console.
  • Inside MSP Vantage. Backup status sits next to everything else you manage for each customer.
Security

Built so we can't open your backups

Each customer's backups have their own key, made in the console. Copies of it are locked to the people allowed to restore and to a printed recovery kit. Our servers only ever hold sealed pieces.

Ransomware can't take your backups

A machine can only add new backups. It cannot change or delete one, even if an attacker controls it. Old backups are removed only by the rules you set, and never in under 14 days.

A recovery kit for each customer

24 words, shown once and typed back before Backup starts. Nobody can reset a key for you. That's what keeps your backups private.

Questions

Good to know

If you can't open my backups, how do I restore?

The people allowed to restore hold a copy of the key, locked to their own passphrase. The console opens the backup in their browser, or the backup engine opens it on the machine being restored. Neither ever sends the key to us.

What if everyone with a key leaves, or forgets their passphrase?

Use the customer's 24-word recovery kit. It opens their backups on its own, without us. Keep it somewhere safe and private, such as a safe, not a desk drawer.

What happens if ransomware reaches a server?

It can only add new backups. Backups already made cannot be changed or deleted from the machine, so you restore from the last good one.

Do I need a storage box in the office?

No. Machines can back up straight to us. A storage box in the office adds fast restores and a second copy, and it is the usual choice for servers.

Where are backups kept?

In the UK on our own servers, or in storage your business already pays for. Either way, only sealed pieces are stored.

Does every backup copy everything again?

No. Files are cut into pieces and only pieces that are new are sent and stored, so daily backups are quick and take little space.

Can my IT provider restore without asking me?

If your IT provider runs Backup for you, their technicians allowed to restore hold the key, so they can bring files back when you need them. Your own admins can hold a copy too.

Is this the same account as MSP Vantage Sync or Vault?

No. MSP Vantage Backup has its own sign-in, so one can never be used to get into another.

Backups that stay yours

MSP Vantage Backup is being built now. IT providers already set up can sign in to the console.
